Al Ain — Ramadan at Hafeet 2023

At Ramadan at Hafeet 2023, DCT Abu Dhabi’s Ramadan event at the foot of Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain, RE:SORB turned an entire rock face into a canvas of light and staged holographic fog installations and a projection sphere on the festival grounds.

In 2023 RE:SORB turned a rock face in Al Ain, the oasis city at the foot of Jebel Hafeet, into a canvas of light for Ramadan at Hafeet, the Ramadan event organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) at Green Mubazzarah.

On the festival grounds below, families walked into holographic fog installations and gathered around a projection sphere.

The fog installations on the festival grounds were a showing of ÆTHER, RE:SORB’s touring walk-in fog work, and belong to the family of holographic lightfields the studio developed: layered fog and projected light that fabricate three-dimensional form in mid-air, with no headsets, no glasses and no LED. They are made to be walked into rather than looked at, so visitors stand inside the image instead of in front of it.

The projection sphere sits with the studio’s other sphere and dome work, alongside the Omnisphere at Garbicz Festival. Al Ain was not the studio’s only work in the Emirates in that period: since 2023 RE:SORB has also produced the 3D mapping for the opening shows of the Sharjah Light Festival.
