The Past and Future — Odawara Castle
Winner of the Audience Award at the 1minute Projection Mapping Competition Japan 2019: a 3D mapping on the keep of Odawara Castle that lets the castle’s history and a speculative future collide.
‘The past and future’ won the Audience Award at the 1minute Projection Mapping Competition Japan 2019, held on the keep of Odawara Castle, one of Japan’s best-known castles south of Tokyo.
The show uses the castle’s stacked roofs, curved gables and white plaster walls as a multi-level stage and moves between two worlds: the castle’s history, evoked in traditional textures, ink and gold, and a speculative future of light, geometry and motion — before returning to stillness.
The project continues RE:SORB’s work in Japan, which also includes 360° mapping at AgeHa, Tokyo’s largest club, and the Jury Prize-winning ‘MUTATE / EVOLVE’ in Tokyo.
